Smoke Alarm Laws (WA) – Are You Compliant?

Who does it affect?

Homeowners
If you're selling your home, smoke alarms must comply with WA legislation before settlement.

Landlords
Rental properties must have compliant smoke alarms installed and maintained. It's the landlord's responsibility to ensure they're working correctly at the start of each tenancy and throughout the lease.

Quick Compliance Reminder

Your smoke alarms should:

  • Be permanently connected to mains power (for homes where required by law).

  • Be less than 10 years old from the date of manufacture.

  • Be installed in the correct locations.

  • Be tested regularly to ensure they're working properly.

If your alarms are ageing, beeping unexpectedly, or you're unsure when they were last replaced, it's worth having them checked before they become a safety risk—or a compliance issue.

Not sure if your smoke alarms meet current WA requirements?

Contact Sublime Electrical Co for a smoke alarm compliance check. We'll inspect your existing alarms, identify any issues, and make sure your home is safe, compliant, and ready for peace of mind.
